The oil road

December 2001 – April 2002

The John Garang (SPLA) and Riek Machar (SPDF) factions  ambushed several large government military convoys. The government launched a counter-offensive to drive civilians from the oil road. It also deployed Baggara militia for the first time south of the Bahr El Ghazal (Nam in Nuer) River.
