Swedish Government gives green light for war crimes trial against Lundin Petroleum

The Financial Times reported on 18 October 2018 that the Swedish Government has approved a request by the prosecutors to take Ian Lundin and Alex Schneiter to court for aiding and abetting war crimes. Sweden’s justice minister commented that the Chair and CEO of Lundin Petroleum S.A. may face lifetime imprisonment if found guilty. Lundin called the decision “totally unacceptable”. An actual indictment seems to be a matter of time now and court hearings are may start by the Summer of 2019.  Reacting on the news, victims of human rights violations in Lundin’s concession area expressed their hope that the court case will bring justice and reparation.
