In and around Leer

26 to 30 January, 2003

Leer attacked on Jan 26. On 27 Jan, heavy fighting in and around Leer. Operations were initiated on 26 Jan. Much of the population of Leer has been driven out by direct military attack. Villages leading into Leer from the North are totally depopulated due to direct military action. Tanks and helicopter gunships were alleged to have been used by regular GoS forces. There are also reports from IDP´s that APC´s were used in village clearing operations north of Leer.
