Block 5A

March – November, 2001

In the ensuing months of fighting between Nuer rebels and the government’s Nuer militias, tens of thousands of civilians in Block 5A were uprooted. Indiscriminate bombing by the government of civilian targets. The use of Antonov aircraft. Popular targets were churches, schools and clinics run by the [Catholic] church.
